I had the opportunity once again to spend a weekend with a group of teenagers in Des Moines. No, it was not for a sporting event, or even a Christian concert. We were there to learn about worship. Continue reading Worship Weekend! WOW!
Yesterday’s worship was a bit out of the ordinary. It was amazing…which isn’t the reason it was awesome. As per usual, our children entered the service waving palm branches. This has become somewhat of a tradition in celebration of Palm Sunday. Continue reading Palm Sunday Celebration
The Armor of God: How to WIN against SIN
This past Sunday: The Shoes of the Gospel of Peace
When we put on these shoes and remember the gospel every day, we are able to follow Jesus instead of Satan and tell everyone we meet about God’s love.
What is the Gospel of Peace? The Gospel of Peace is that Jesus came and died on the cross for our sins and then rose from the dead and ascended into Heaven. This means that if we believe in Jesus Christ and ask Him to forgive us of our sins, then we can live a peaceful life without worry. We don’t have to worry because we know we are going to Heaven.
Why do you think we have to prepare our feet with this? Our job as warriors for God is to let as many people as we can know about the Gospel. One way we can do this is to tell them about the ABC’s of salvation.
“A” means you accept that you’re a sinner and need Jesus to stop from sinning.
“B” means you believe that Jesus Christ has already died for all of your sins and wants you to follow Him for the rest of your life and someday go to Heaven.
“C” means you confess your sins to Jesus and ask Him to come into your heart and forgive you of your sins.
1st & 2nd Grade do the craft part. The “shoes” that they made were a paper foot shape that lay over their shoe with (yarn) lace-up strings to the mid-calf. After the Sunday school hour, saw a cute little first grade girl walking ever-so-slowly-carefully with baby steps. She informed me these were her PEACE shoes and she needed to walk very carefully! It was adorable, as from a distance you would have thought she was walking on bubbles, trying not to pop them!
Next week: The Shield of Faith
“Put on the full armor of God so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes.”
We are approaching Holy Week. In preparation for next week, I would challenge you to read the last few chapters in each of the 4 Gospels. Several years ago I was in a study written by Focus on the Family entitled “The Truth Project.” It opens with the scene from Continue reading What Is Truth?
This past Wednesday we attended an event here in town as our youth group meeting. Bob Lenz, along with A.J. the Illusionist, spoke in our high school auditorium in the evening. The entire event was so well attended. It was amazing. Continue reading Illusion and the Gospel
January has come and gone, and there has been a huge movement to “get fit” again. I am not sure why we worry most about this in the winter, when we are supposed to be hibernating like bears, but it happens each year. And I do want to live healthy. I want to live healthy year round, but a few things clutter my way. Continue reading Live Healthy Sheldon
Last week we started a series called “Broken” as we worship in Lent. We are learning about the way that God uses our brokenness in so many ways, turning it into something beautiful. Continue reading Broken
