The Armor of God: How to WIN against SIN

This past Sunday: The Breastplate of Righteousness

Our lesson was on being RIGHT WITH GOD, and when we put on the Breastplate of Righteousness, we are being right with God and protecting our hearts. These lessons are fun for all of us, leaders included! The songs, games, crafts, and discussions are priceless. I will try to share another brief conversation I had with a 2nd grader (my nephew) on this past week’s lesson (I only wish I could share it audibly).

Me: Cool Breastplate!

Nephew: Thanks! (In his higher pitched voice)

Me: So what did you learn?

Nephew: Well, I wasn’t here right away but I still got to make mine (breastplate).

Me: Awesome! Can I help you glue the pieces on? (A heart and the words RIGHT WITH GOD)

Nephew: Sure! (Again his higher pitched voice)

Nephew: Do you like my rednazzzzz? (Now a raspy voice, dragging out the z sound)

(He had written rednaz in red marker on his breastplate. It was the only decorating he had time for, other than the two pieces we glued on.)

Me: What is “rednaz”?

Nephew: It protects my heart. Rednazzzzz!

Me: Rednaz protects your heart?

Nephew: Yeah, it’s my breastplate of rednazzzzzzzzzz!

I get a kick out of that kid! He makes me laugh as puts on his Breastplate of Righteousness, or should I say REDNAZZZZZZZZZZZ! And heads off with his family to attend church service, wearing his breastplate oh so proudly!

This coming Sunday: The Shoes of the Gospel of Peace

I am anxious to hear the children’s interpretation of this one! Until next week, find the blessings in all things and praise God for the gift of children and the fun imaginations!

Ephesians 6:11

“Put on the full armor of God so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes.”

The Armor of God – How to WIN Against SIN

Kid Blog1

We have begun a new curriculum in our children’s Sunday school classrooms (1st through 6th grades). It’s a nine week lesson study where each week the children will learn about the different pieces in the Armor of God.   Each grade has a different activity or craft that ties in with the week’s lesson that is appropriate to their age/grade level.

The first piece is the Belt of Truth. 3rd-6th grade had bible verse races for their activity, on different scriptures referencing “truth”. The 1st & 2nd grade class had a craft, making Belts of Truth from foam paper; which I was extremely excited to see how they would turn out! After Sunday school and before worship service began, a few of the children come walking in with their Belts of Truth on along with big smiles. This warmed my heart. Hearing one child explain his Belt of Truth, I knew this curriculum was not only a great choice we’ve made but also a God send! Here is this boy’s explanation of what his Belt of Truth is made of:

“Well, it’s like Batman’s utility belt only different. Mine has the bible on it and God’s love and Jesus and those are things that help me fight against the devil and maybe the Joker!”

Next week: The Breastplate of Righteouness

Ephesians 6:11

“Put on the full armor of God so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes.”
