I was given a book a few weeks ago by another youth pastor in town titled “Circle Maker” by Mark Batterson. We had just listened to him speak at the Orange Conference outside of Atlanta. He didn’t speak on the topic of this book, but my friend was familiar with him prior to the conference because of this book. Continue reading Circle Maker
Good beautiful, sun shining, Thursday everyone!
Growing up in northwest Iowa, I adored our summers. The skies always seemed bluer, the clouds were the perfect puffy white, and we (neighbor kids) would lie in an open grassy Continue reading Ah, Summer!
Here in Sheldon we celebrated the graduation of the seniors in the school district. As always, it was a weekend filled with parties, happiness, and entirely too much food. Ribs, tacos, sloppy joes, potato salad, barbecued meats, creamed turkey, and on and on and on… I love it! Continue reading Graduation Celebration
I was just on Facebook and looked at a YouTube video that was posted, and if you grew up before the year 2000 you will laugh hysterically. I could relate. Yesterday’s modern worship service included the song “I Surrender” in the worship set. I love this song. It’s haunting musical motif catches my attention, and the lyrics are so simple that you can focus on your time in worship without having to keep your eyes glued to the screen in an effort to sing along. Continue reading I Surrender
I was talking with a couple of people this past week, all from different churches, and one of them asked the question, “Do you think your churches will be around in twenty years?” Sadly, not everyone in the discussion said that their churches would still be around. Continue reading In Twenty Years…
Today I would like to ask for your prayers.
We have two exciting events about to happen in our church, VBS and a Summer Lunch Program. Continue reading Prayer Requests
During one of the sessions at The Orange Conference, Reggie Joiner was sharing the important things that we as youth leaders want to teach the students. He pulled out a large book, representing each of the things listed below, and placed them in a stack on one side of the table. Continue reading The Important Things
In the Sermon on the Mount (Matthew chapters 5-7), Jesus turns the world upside down for those listening. He begins with the Beatitudes, and then states that he has come to fulfill the laws and the prophets. The fulfillment takes the commands of the Old Testament Continue reading Love Matters
Yesterday morning’s worship set included one of my favorite worship songs. “From the Inside Out” has a set of opening lines that press their way directly into my heart. I’m always saying how important it is to pay attention to what we are singing during our worship time, and these lyrics have never let me sing over them absent-mindedly.
